YouTube has introduced its affiliate program in India, partnering with Flipkart and Myntra to allow creators to tag products in their videos and earn referral commissions. Eligible creators need to be part of the partner program and have a minimum of 10,000 subscribers. Previously, Indian creators could only list their own merchandise, but now they can tag products across various formats like videos, Shorts, and livestreams. This move follows similar initiatives in the U.S., where YouTube has been expanding shopping and affiliate link features. Recently, YouTube collaborated with Shopify, providing creators access to more products and launching an affiliate hub.
The platform aims to enhance product discovery through multiple content formats and devices, leveraging India’s vast user base of over 400 million. Industry experts, like Quroz founder Praanesh Bhuvaneswar, view this as a significant opportunity for smaller creators to gain visibility. YouTube’s affiliate program is also active in South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
