Trustpilot, the global online consumer review platform, has released its 2023 Transparency Report, highlighting a record-breaking year with 54 million reviews published globally—a 17% increase from 2022. Over a million businesses were reviewed, aiding consumers in making informed purchasing decisions.
Despite the surge, the platform maintained a steady removal rate of fake reviews at 6%, thanks to advanced automated detection systems that identified 82% of fake reviews, up from 68% in 2022. Trustpilot's active community and whistleblower functionality have also been instrumental in preserving trust. Chief Trust Officer Anoop Joshi emphasized the importance of combating fake reviews to uphold the platform's integrity.
In 2023, Trustpilot issued nearly 7,000 public consumer warnings and took legal action against 10 businesses, donating damages to consumer rights charities. Additionally, 575,000 consumer accounts were suspended or blocked for guideline violations.
