Payments giant Stripe has acquired Lemon Squeezy, a four-year-old competitor specializing in global sales tax and legal processing for digital products. The acquisition, announced by Lemon Squeezy on Friday, aims to scale Stripe's merchant of record (MoR) capabilities, particularly for SaaS and software businesses. Lemon Squeezy's co-founder and CEO, JR Farr, emphasized the strategic fit with Stripe, noting that his 13-person company surpassed $1 million in annual recurring revenue just nine months after its 2021 launch.
This acquisition follows Stripe's recent acqui-hire of Supaglue's four-person team in March and last summer's acquisition of startup Okay, reflecting Stripe's ongoing expansion in providing integrated payment and analytics solutions.
