LinkedIn confirms the ‘follower purge’ was a resolved bug

On Tuesday, LinkedIn users noticed a sudden drop in their follower counts, leading to speculation that LinkedIn was purging fake, inactive, or duplicate accounts. Users expressed concern over potential account bans and the impact on their professional clout. Initially, there was no official statement from LinkedIn, which fueled rumors about the nature of the issue. However, later in the day, LinkedIn addressed the problem, stating they had investigated and resolved the issue, but provided no explanation for the cause.

Despite common practices by other social networks like X, which periodically purge spammers and inactive accounts, there is no confirmation that LinkedIn's follower drop was due to such an action. The incident highlights the importance of communication from LinkedIn, especially since their X account hasn't been active since May of last year. The sudden drop raised concerns among professionals who depend on their network presence for business and marketing purposes.
