OpenAI has announced the launch of SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine designed to organize and make sense of real-time internet information. Unlike traditional search engines, SearchGPT provides summarized findings with short descriptions and attribution links. Initially available to 10,000 test users, SearchGPT is powered by the GPT-4 models and aims to integrate directly into ChatGPT eventually.
OpenAI's new venture positions it as a competitor to Google and AI "answer" engine Perplexity. Developed in collaboration with notable news partners, SearchGPT emphasizes transparency in its responses by prominently citing and linking sources. The prototype will be free at launch, with monetization strategies yet to be determined.
