Midjourney, the AI image-generating platform known for its impressive $200 million revenue without VC backing, is expanding into hardware. The announcement was made in a post on X, revealing that the new hardware team will operate out of San Francisco.
Midjourney's hiring of Ahmad Abbas, an ex-Neuralink staffer who played a significant role in engineering Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset, hints at the potential direction of their hardware endeavors. CEO David Holz, no stranger to hardware innovation, co-founded Leap Motion, a company known for its motion-tracking peripherals, where he previously worked with Abbas.
Despite facing legal challenges over its AI training methods, Midjourney remains committed to advancing its AI models for video and 3D generation. Their venture into hardware appears to be an extension of these efforts, aiming to further enhance their capabilities in the AI space.
