Google has expanded its AI capabilities by integrating the Gemini chatbot feature, called Gmail Q&A, into the Gmail app for iOS users. Initially launched for Android in August, this feature is now accessible to Google One AI Premium subscribers and Google Workspace accounts with specific add-ons. Gmail Q&A allows users to interact with their inbox using natural language queries, such as checking unread messages from specific senders or summarizing emails on certain topics. This integration aims to shift users from traditional email searching to AI-driven information retrieval within Gmail. Although available to select premium users, Gmail Q&A is part of Google's strategy to boost revenue from its subscription services.
This rollout coincides with Google's broader push to incorporate AI across its suite of products, including Google Docs and Calendar. Additionally, Google recently introduced revamped "summary cards" in Gmail to enhance inbox organization. These initiatives ensure Gmail remains competitive, following similar feature updates in Apple's iOS Mail app.
