Karl Wirth, ex-vice president of Salesforce, has filed a lawsuit against the tech giant, alleging that the company made false claims about the capabilities of its Customer Data Platform (CDP) software, Genie, particularly its ability to process data in "real-time." Launched on September 20, 2022, Genie was touted by Salesforce as its biggest announcement since inception, claiming to unify and act on data in milliseconds, a feature Wirth asserts is misrepresented.
According to court documents, while some data collection occurred in real-time, other critical processes took several hours, contradicting public marketing statements. After raising concerns internally about these discrepancies and the potential violation of Federal laws concerning fraud, Wirth experienced what he describes as a campaign to tarnish his reputation led by his supervisor, Lidiane Jones, and was terminated after a meeting with Salesforce CTO Parker Harris.
Wirth is now seeking damages for whistleblower retaliation, as detailed in the lawsuit filed on July 28. Representatives for Salesforce, Slack, and Parker Harris have yet to respond to these allegations.
