Elon Musk's social media platform X is under scrutiny for allegedly using EU users' data without consent to train its Grok AI chatbot, as discovered by a user in late July. Nine privacy complaints have been filed across Europe, accusing X of violating GDPR regulations, which require explicit consent for data use. Despite the provision for users to opt out being introduced only in late July, prior data processing occurred from May to August without notification.
Noyb, a privacy rights organization, insists that X must obtain user consent, challenging its reliance on "legitimate interest" for data processing. The Irish Data Protection Commission has initiated legal action to halt X's data practices, echoing past regulatory actions against Meta for similar infractions.
