Customer demands for network resilience and redundancy are growing, according to Cisco's senior vice president Masum Mir. Cisco and AT&T recently introduced an integration between AT&T's fixed wireless access (FWA) and Cisco Meraki cellular gateways, simplifying the process for businesses to add network resilience. This integration enables businesses to provision AT&T FWA through the Meraki dashboard, featuring cloud-managed eSIM technology for seamless connectivity.
Mir highlighted the importance of perpetual connectivity for distributed locations, particularly for verticals like retail and food services. The rapid adoption of FWA is evident in the quarterly earnings of providers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T, with significant net FWA additions reported.
Cisco is also advancing in selling and deploying private 5G networks, addressing business demands for consistent connectivity management. Additionally, Cisco is exploring low earth orbit (LEO) satellites to expand connectivity to remote areas, competing with companies like Amazon Kuiper and SpaceX Starlink.
